Formaldehyde (HCHO) is thought to be a carcinogen and is nevertheless found in many products such as furniture, clothing and toys. In addition, HCHO is used in the areas such as cosmetics, textile finishing, polymer production, disinfection, adhesives, binders, fertilizers or preservatives. In the case of all of these substances HCHO can outgas in the later use, which can lead to contamination of the ambient air. The gas has a toxic effect, it evaporates only slowly and in such a way pollutes the air sustainably and for a longer term. Since 2015, HCHO has been classified as a likely carcinogen for the humans (Category 1B according to the CLP Regulation). With the HCHO measuring device, PCE Instruments has a measuring device in the program that can quickly, conveniently and precisely check the formaldehyde content in the room air. At the same time, the HCHO meter records temperature and humidity and also displays the date and time.

Formaldehyde enters the body through the breath, irritating the eyes, nose and throat, leading to headaches and allergic skin reactions. In order to check the formaldehyde load in the room air, the HCHO measuring device from PCE Instruments may be used, which was specially designed for monitoring the interiors. The HCHO measuring device continuously and reliably checks the formaldehyde content in the respiratory air. Thanks to a rechargeable battery, it is possible to use the HCHO meter completely independently for a while without connecting it to a power source. The battery level is visualized in the HCHO meter with a battery symbol in the upper part of the large LC display. In order to ensure a permanent check of the air in the closed rooms, the manufacturer has equipped the HCHO measuring device with a USB interface. In this way, it can be connected to a power source. The HCHO meter is therefore also suitable for long-term monitoring. The measuring range of the HCHO measuring device is 0 to 2 mg / m³. In addition, the HCHO measuring device provides reliable information about the temperature (-10 degrees Celsius to +50 degrees Celsius) and the humidity (0 to 99 percent RH).

The determined values are clearly displayed by the HCHO measuring device on the large LC display. If the formaldehyde content in the room air is too high, the white-lit display switches to red. The alarm function of the HCHO meter allows the user to react quickly to the changes in indoor air. In order to minimize the pollution of the air, the fresh air should be supplied as quickly as possible and a window should be opened should the limit be exceeded. With the help of the HCHO measuring device, it is always possible to achieve optimum indoor air quality and prevent the harmful effects of formaldehyde pollution.
 

Areas of Application for HCHO Measuring Instruments

The HCHO measuring device can be used flexibly and is characterized by its compact size and high reliability. The HCHO measuring device is therefore ideal for monitoring the quality of the indoor air and the indoor air pollution by the formaldehyde. Its practical features and ease of use make the HCHO instrument the ideal solution for factories, workplaces, schools, day-care centres, research and development facilities. Even in the private sector, the HCHO measuring device is preferred because of the uncomplicated application. With the HCHO measuring device, the user can check at any time whether the defined by the Federal Environmental Agency guideline value for indoor areas of 0.1 mg HCHO per cubic meter is exceeded, in order to be able to react immediately in this case. The occupational exposure limit was set at 0.3 ml / m³ in 2015. In construction there is also a target value of 30 μg / m³.
